INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT OF SIASAH SYAR'IYYAH
The Department of Siasah Syar’iyyah (Islamic Political Science) is a department under the umbrella of Shariah Program. This department was officially established in 1996 with the establishment of Academy of Islamic Studies at University of Malaya. This department offers bachelor and postgraduate degrees in Shariah with a specialization in Islamic Political Science. This is in line with the department’s aim to provide high-quality scholars who can apply shariah solutions to political issues through integrated teaching and learning in the theory of Shariah and Islamic Political Science. The department’s mission is to produce high-quality research and publications in Islamic political Science that enhance knowledge and community development at both national and international levels. Our research is broad-ranging and far-reaching; it includes Islamic Politics, Islamic Governance, Islamic Management, Shariah based Quality Management, Islamic Political Thought, Leadership in Islam, Human Rights in Islam, International Islamic Relations and Malaysian Politics. The department have strong networks and linkages with government institutions and industry like JAKIM, YADIM, INTAN and many more. Industry exposure is gained through industrial training, community services and industry guest lecturers. Many of the department’s graduates at the bachelor and postgraduate levels have gone on to work in administrative and management sectors or teach Islamic Political Science and Islamic Management administration all over the world. The department’s alumni are from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Libya, Algeria, Palestine, Yaman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore, as well as from Malaysia.
