| Department of Syariah & Economics |
Background The Academy of Islam, University of Malaya was founded in 1981. In 1996, it merged with the Department of Islamic Studies and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. It became, from thence on, the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya (APIUM). The founding of this new Academy also saw the birth of the Department of Syari’ah and Economics which now exists alongside 9 other departments. Prior to 1996, the Academy of Islam, University of Malaya offered Economics as an elective subject in the Bachelors in Syari’ah programme. With only 2 academic staff when it first came into being in 1986, the Department of Syari’ah and Economics has since become a fast expanding and competitive department, contributing more than 50 excellent and capable graduates into the national job market each year. |
