Department of Fiqh & Usul
The Department of Fiqh and Usul was established simultaneously with the establishment of the Academy of Islamic Studies in 1996.  This department is an important department because it offers core courses in Syariah studies. Since its establishment, it has been headed by a number of heads of department and the first head is Associate Professor Md Salleh Hj Ahmad.

The department of Fiqh and Usul offers two programmes of study at the undergraduate level; they are the Bachelors in Syariah (Fiqh and Usul) and the Bachelors in Syariah (Falak and Syar’ie).  The Bachelors in Syariah (Falak and Syar’ie) is administered jointly with the faculty of Science University of Malaya.

Apart from that, the department offers studies at the post-graduate level.  These are the Masters and Doctor of Philosophy programme in the department’s various areas of specialization.
