Assalamualaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuh.

As a key department that offers basic Shariah courses in Academy of Islamic Studies University of Malaya, Department of Fiqh and Usul has been known as one of the institutions that produce competitive human resources, particularly in the area of Shariah in Malaysia. Levels of education offered by the Department begin from the Bachelor level up to the postgraduate and PhD degree.

The Department has taken the harmony approach in the learning of Islamic jurisprudence which all academic work either produced by the past Islamic scholars as well as the contemporary scholars can be blended together, so that the students can conclude and make an accurate analysis based on the real facts and righteous views. Beside method of learning based on islamic law (Shariah) and its methodology, students also have been exposed to the knowledge of realistic thinking and the current situation so that they can justify the Islamic law in the really practical and appropriate practice in a developing society.

By using Malay, Arabic and English as medium of language, students are also taught to the soft skills such as communication skills, analytical problem-solving ability and ability to show captivating personality to meet the demand in the job market.

Finally, I’m hoping that we all can share and contribute toward this noble effort to ensure that Shariah will be more alive in the practical world.
